MS Teams: Can I invite a guest to a channel without giving access to the whole team?

  • by

Right now, we can’t! Any user needs to be a member of the parent team to be a member of a channel, but this is changing soon.

It’s getting rolled out for Q2 2022! .. well Microsoft announced it in March 2021, “Microsoft Connect Shared Channels” are coming. Shared Channels are the answers to a question that always comes up when I train on Microsoft Teams ins and outs:

“I don’t want my supplier to access our project team, but just files in their own channel” or

“I want all my contractors to discuss in the same channel and our employees to see all the channels including the contractors one”.

I am so happy that it has been deployed already at a few of my clients’ tenants who are in the Technology Adoption/TAP Program and “Teams’ Team owners” love it!
